Pre-match analysis – Denmark Vs. Montenegro
Denmark is in Group A and hosts Slovenia, Montenegro, and the Czech Republic. In the opening round, Denmark will face Montenegro in Debrecen in Slovenia, wherein the four matches played between the two teams so far, Denmark has won four of the five games played. The Montenegro team has beaten Denmark 32:31 on 10 May 2019 in the EHF Euro 2020 qualifier in Montenegro.
However, this is the fourth time the Montenegrin team has participated in the Men’s EHF EURO Final Tournament, still looking for their first victory in the meeting, as the best they managed was a draw in fifteen games.
I believe that the match will be entirely dominated by Denmark, where experience and quality will come out on top against a Montenegrin team inexperienced at this level, despite their four participations.
It is undoubtedly challenging to predict how the Montenegrin team will perform. The only certainty is that Montenegro will have many difficulties due to the many injuries and positive cases known in the last few days. Offensively, my prediction is that Montenegro will bet on long and disciplined attacks, where Stefan Cavor will play a key role in longshots. However, I think they will play at the limit of the passive game to avoid being run over in the Danish transitions. Defensively, they will have a lot of difficulties to stop and overcome the Danish offensive avalanche, where Nebojša Simic can be a key player in the net.
On the other side, Denmark, despite the losses of Lasse Møller and Anders Zachariassen due to injuries and Jannick Green in doubt for having tested positive on 3 January 2022. However, Danmark is the great favorite for the final victory, presenting the most balanced, deep, and full-of-stars team that wants to reach the gold medal that they have not won since 2012.
Nikolaj Jacobsen’s Denmark will bet on an aggressive defense. I believe they will alternate between 6:0 and 5:1 with Magnus Saugstrup performing the advanced defense task, where Niklas Landin will undoubtedly contribute with high efficiency in goal. In the Danish attack, the first phase will focus on transitions and fast attacking, but as the game unfolds, Denmark will take the opportunity to work on some details for the later stages of the tournament. Besides that, Nikolaj Jacobsen will take the opportunity to distribute minutes among all the players to manage the team physically.
Result: Denmark 31-19 Montenegro
Men of the match: Mikkel Hansen.
The dices are cast, the wait is over, and at the end of the day, I will be here, trying to answer the questions and my predictions about the game.
